Cheap Flights: Our Top 5 Tips

We want to save you time, frustration and most importantly money. Click To Tweet

Finding an affordable flight doesn’t have to be overwhelming, just follow these 5 steps and you’ll be ready to catch cheap flights.

1. Try All The Flight Engines

There are a number of flight aggregators and they’re all worth checking.

Our favourites are:

  • Skyscanner
  • JetRadar
  • Google Flights
  • Momondo
  • Cheapoair
  • Airfare Watchdog

2. Search Incognito And Clear Your Cookies

Flight prices increase when a route is searched repeatedly. Click To Tweet

Make sure you’re searching using incognito, and open a new incognito window for each new search that you do.

3. Check If There Are Cheaper Days To Fly

The easiest way to do this is to select a ‘one-way’option using Skyscanner and choose to see ‘whole month’ results.

This will quickly give you an idea if some flight days are cheaper than others.

4. Check All The Airports Around Your Destination

Budget airlines, particularly in Europe, often fly to smaller airports close to your destination and are generally significantly more affordable.

WARNING: Sometimes these airports are far from town and the cost and time that it takes to get to the center makes it more expensive.

5. Use A Travel Agent To Check For Cheap Flights

Try using a travel agent to find cheap flights. They regularly have access to discounted rates that the public doesn’t.

If they can’t beat a price that you’ve found when you were looking for cheap flights; then no harm, no foul.

You don’t have to make the booking with them.

The only thing to keep in mind is that for local flights (such as cheap flights to Durban and cheap flights to Johannesburg), quite often they are not able to compete on price.
